First Gulf Bank Partners With ADNIC To Support The Fight Against Diabetes In The UAE
(14 November 2012)
"Diabetes Care" plan corresponds to rising rates of epidemic in the region

As part of its ongoing strategy to develop innovative products that match the needs of the local community, a major leading financial institution in the UAE, First Gulf Bank (FGB), launched its ‘Diabetes Care’ Plan today, on the occasion of World Diabetes Day. This product provides solid financial aid and a Wellness Programme for a disease that affects 20% of the current population of the UAE, with forecasts of this number increasing over the next period.

Falling under FGB’s ‘First Insure’ programme, ‘Diabetes Care’ encourages UAE residents to take their first step towards prevention of diabetes and works towards alleviating the stress of various critical illnesses through reducing the expenses that are incurred as a result of living with this condition. Customers of this plan will be receiving a range of medical and financial benefits through a strategic partnership with Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company (ADNIC).

The programme comes at nominal premiums starting as low as AED 1 per day and customers are entitled to receiving a range of features, if they are diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes as well as any of the plan’s covered critical illness. These include an immediate Inconvenience Cash Benefit, a free medical check-up and consultation with a doctor in the UAE. The plan also works on addressing personal, day-to-day requirements for customers, where it offers a complimentary dietary assessment and lifestyle counseling sessions at reputed Fitness Centres in the country, to help manage the customer’s lifestyle needs.

‘Diabetes Care’ goes even further, and covers for a range of critical illnesses, which include heart attacks, cancer, strokes, kidney failures, and brain tumors. This is due to the fact that diabetics are 3 to 4 times more likely to contract these diseases because of their condition. If the patient is diagnosed with any of these illnesses, then the plan will pay twice the sum insured up to AED 400,000 as a lump sum.

Commenting on this new, innovative product, Mufazzal Kajiji, Head of Wealth Management and Bancassurance at FGB, stated: “As one of the largest local banks in the UAE, we are committed to playing an effective role in addressing concerns that are significant to our community. Having identified diabetes as an important health issue to many, according to community studies and figures issued by HAAD, we at FGB felt it was our duty to find a solution to provide financial reassurance where it is required the most.”

“Diabetes is one of the biggest health challenges facing UAE residents. The costs of healthcare are rising therefore it is imperative to have adequate insurance cover in one’s overall financial plan,” he added.

Commenting on the alliance Shaikh Ahmed, Chief Distribution Officer of Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company (ADNIC), said: “ADNIC has been insuring the people of the U.A.E for more than forty years and through our strategic partnership with First Gulf Bank we will continue to support and insure the next generation of residents and nationals in U.A.E. We are delighted to collaborate with FGB as their preferred insurance partner for this insurance program, and we look forward to providing a complete secure insurance solution for FGB’s customers in the years to come.”

First Gulf Bank’s products are customer centric and always serve the community. Recently ‘Well Woman Plan’ was also launched targeting all female residents in the UAE between the ages of 18-64 years old, and covers many of the common cancers affecting women.
